**The Blue Rondos -Little Baby- Portrait of a Genius, Joe Meek Compilation Boxset Castle Music UK
A song for the lonely at heart. In discussions, I have heard folks liken this track to early Roy Orbison - definitely haunted twangy pop. Originally released in 1964, this was the b-side to the ‘Baby I Go For You’ 7-inch single produced by Meek (RGM Sound Ltd era). For more information on the Blue Rondos: Go here!
**Flip & the Dateliners -My Johnny Doesn’t Come Around- Let’s Go, Joe Meek’s Girls Compilation RPM

Originally released in 1964, this cover of a Chip Taylor song was the first and only single released by Flip and the Dateliners. Vivienne Chering (Flip) went on to do a solo single with Decca in 1966 under her real name.
**Chick Lewis -With Someone Like You- The Triumph Sessions, Work in Progress Compilation RPM
‘Chick Lewis’ is the stage name of a singer who’s true identity is a bit of a mystery. One thing that is hard to believe is that the fellow who sang this piece a Brit – sounds more like a US hick. This nice twangy number was canned till folks got interested in the eerie – spacey sounds of Meeksville. This song with most likely recorded sometime in the early 1960s.
**Vermillion Sands -I Need No One- 12-inch EP: Miss My Gun Sacred Bones Records (2009)
My favorite cut off of the Miss My Gun EP.
**Hearts of Animals -Underwater Straggie- 7-inch Dull Knife Records (2008)A whimsical piece by this Houston, Texas artist. This being her debut release, she has since done a full length album with ArtStorm records. For more information check here.

**The Wiggins -In the Night- 7-inch Dull Knife Records (2008)
Also from Huston, Mr. Wiggins has recently had a new single come out on Needless Records. For more information check here.

**The Ohsees -Cool Death- & -Broken Stems- The Cool Death of Island Raiders Album Narnack Records (2006)
My favorite cuts off of the Cool Death... album.

**OCS -Intermission- 2 Album Narnack Records (2004)
Early recording by San Francisco’s Thee Oh Sees; highlights the experimental direction that this band originally took before finding their current rockin’ nitch.
**Circuit De Yeux -Serinade to Sophia *Excerpt*- Sirenum LP De Stijl (2009)
Unfortunate – Our copy of this record is a bit warped due to it being delivered during the heat of the summer. I didn’t realize how bad this song skipped till spinning it on air….. opps…
**Purling Hiss -Montage Mountain- S/T album Archive Records (2009)
Pretty kick ass rock number by this Philadelphia group. For more information, check here.
**Eternal Tapestry -Untitled- The Invisible Landscape LP Not Not Fun Records (2009)

**Plastic Crimewave Sound -Bad Politics- 7-inch HoZac Records (2009)
New record out now and still available through
Hozac. The lurch going on here coupled with the vocals reminds me a little bit of early Jesus & Mary Chain - though with a bit more of a heavy trad rock vibe going on. Pretty damn rad!
**Death -You’re A Prisoner- …For The Whole World To See LP Drag City Records (2009)

Dug out from 1975 Detriot - nice! There are some cuts on this album that I think could have been passed on, though overall pretty hoppin record. More information about 'Death' can be found here.
**Destroy All Monsters -You’re Gonna Die- 7-inch IDBI Records (1978)
Following up one out of the blue, fairly unknown Detriot proto-punk band with another of sorts - though a better known classic; especially a must know for young and older ladies alike who are into this sort of music. Not a ton of women were in this scene, so to find them involved in bands during this era (a really great band for that matter) is especially exciting. More intimate info regarding this group's history can be found here. They have done a few reunion shows as I understand and even started putting out records again come '95 - haven't checked out much of their later stuff except for the single (circa '96) that carries 'Detroit Rock City' - definitely one of my favorites - may give it a spin in an upcoming show.
**Ozzie -Android Love- 7-inch Make Me Records (1977)
Rad track by a Sacramento legendary band - well, sort of. Few folks I think know much about this band. Fortunately S-S Records is working to make their material more available to all....check the S-S Records site for future details.
**The Pop -Ad Man- S/T LP Automatic Records (1977)

Hilarious track by this L.A. group that as far as I can tell was trying hard to make it big - kind of typical power pop sort of gig - though this track in particular is goofy enough to make it appealing. This is a track that I would expect to hear the likes of DJ Todd to throw down on Hometown Atrocities. Here's some history on The Pop if you're interested in learning more.
**Magazine -The Light Pours Out of Me- Real Life LP Virgin Records (1978)

I have to admit that I haven't listened much to Magazine over the years - though when I do check them out for a cut, I'm always pleased with what I find - this first album in particular is quite appealing in most regards. Information on this legendary British band can be found here.
**The Buzzcocks -Why Can’t I Touch It?- Singles Going Steady LP I.R.S. Records (1978)

This track has caused me to re-fall in love with the Buzzcocks (not that I was ever out of love with them in the first place...). So, I was recently checking out this corny as fuck '80s bobby comedy all about this fellow who can't get none. Breakthrough - he figures out a potion to make himself a babe magnet - irresistible to all ladies. So in the best scene of the movie - during a sexual parade through the ladies dorms - this song is used. The whole time I'm watching I can't stop thinking about how rad this song is, how familiar it sounded, yet I couldn't connect it. Low and behold during the credits we come to find out its the Buzzcocks - OF COURSE!....since then I've had this song going on repeat in my noggin. Rad song and actually a pretty rad movie - The Party Animal. Check it if you dig, and also if you do not mind misogynistic, 'B' level comedies from the '80s. To be completely honest I was totally rooting for Pondo by the end of the film.
**George Brigman -(T.S.)- Jungle Rot LP Anopheles Records (2005)

Fun instrumental number circa 1975 on Anopheles Records - a label run by a legendary former KDVS DJ. For more information on George Brigman, go here.
**Henry Flynt -Raga Electric- Raga Electric LP Locust Records (2009)

Weird un here coming out of 1973. Unfortunately I do not know much about this Mr. Flynt fellow. In reading a little he seems to be an intellectual of sorts who has been associated at times with Fluxus. After hearing Raga Electric I will most definitely be exploring more of his material for future programs. More information on this fellow can be found here.
**Doug Snyder & Bob Thompson -Soul & Universe- Daily Dance LP Cantor Records (2009)

Another weird un coming off of a recent re-issue - originally came out on a private-press label from 1973. For some info/history go here.
**Moon Duo -Winter- One Sided 12-inch LP Holiday Compilation Sacred Bones Records (2009)

Won't provide links for this record cause I don't think it can be bought from the label - as I understand this record was a special holiday gift that was given out to friends and loyalists of Sacred Bones. Nice gift to say the least - good incentive to keep up on the SB catalog.
**Dan Melchior’s Broke Revue -O’Clouds Unfold!- O’Clouds Unfold! 2xLP Hook or Crook Records (2009)
Title track - favorite track off this album.

Catching up after a few weeks of absence….

The show below starts off with a few Jay Reatard/Reatards songs. Jay Reatard [real name Jimmy Lee Lindsey Jr.] past away a day before this show aired. He will be missed by many as a great song writer and musician. Despite being so young (only 29), he produced much more than a lot of folks do in 50 or 60 years. His passing is unfortunate for the music world.

There were many other KDViates who paid tribute to Jay Reatard during their programs; check them out if you like…..

Calamity Janie of Revenge of the Handlebar Mustache
DJ Rick of Art for Spastics
Oddy-Knocky of the Slowest Man
Anrew & DYL Dawg of Sacto, Great Job!

**Reatards -Out of My Head, Into My Bed- Teenage Hate Album Goner Records (1998)
This song is so damn catchy that I’ve had it in my head since this show aired. A testimony to how awesome a musician Jay Reatard was.
**Reatards -You Ain’t No Fun No Mo- Get Real Stupid 7-inch Goner Records (1998)
A bratty mess of a song - I dig how the drums seem to be constantly on the verge of losing the beat.
**Jay Reatard -Bood Visions- Blood Visions Album- In the Red Records (2006)
Perfect track to start an album with.
**Jay Reatard -All Over Again- Night of Broken Glass 12-inch EP In the Red Records (2007)
**Angry Angles -You Fell In- 7-inch Plastic Idol Records (2006)
Put out by Sacramento's own Plastic Idol Records. I especially like the b-side of this record which features a Wire cover.
**Jay Reatard -Waiting For Something- Blood Visions Album In the Red Records (2006)
As the song ‘Blood Visions’ is the perfect way to start an album, ‘Waiting For Something’ is the perfect manner in which to end an album. The chorus alone is incredible with the anthemic ‘oh no no no, they won’t get me’ – so great.
**Nothing People -Enemy with an Invitation- You’re Invited 7-inch Permanent Records (2010)

Newbie by the Nothing People. Hearing this upped my anticipation for their 3rd full length which just came out on S-S Records. The packaging on this single is very sweet though I think that might have contributed to its price tag which is a little on the high end for singles. It's good though, so if you like this band don't let that be a detractor from picking this up. For more information on this single, check out PermanentRecordsChicago.com
**Ganglians -Make It Up- Blood on the Sand 7-inch Captured Tracks Records (2009)

Ah man - I'm hurtin' for summer to come around again....it's alright cause I have Sacramento's own Ganglians to tide me over till then...especially with this track to beckons for an instant sing-a-long.
**Radio Free Europe -Alien Day- Homework #101 Compilation Hyped 2 Death Records (2010)

Nice number coming out of 1979 Austin Texas. For more info on this band/release, check out the H2D site.
**Talk Normal -Uniform- Sugarland LP Rare Book Room Records (2009)

**Inca Ore -Adventure of Light- Silver Sea Surfer School LP Not Not Fun Records (2009)

Absolutely terrific track....eerie and quite beautiful. Last time I took in an Inca Ore performance I was quite floored. If you get the chance, check her out.
**Vermillion Sands -Where Was He From- Miss My Gun 12-inch EP Sacred Bones Records (2009)

I've had this record on over drive recently - a bit frightened I might burn a hole clean through it. That would be sad. This female fronted Italian outfit project vibes that I would rather compare to old-time country favorites of yesteryear than to their contemporaries. For more information, go here. Here for footage.
**Oh Sees -Hey Buddy- Split 7-inch with Paul Gary Stank House Records (2009)
Very pretty and sincere. The type of song I would include on a mixtape for someone I had done wrong - maybe.
**Topaz Rags -Come to the Now- My Estrogeneration Compilation Not Not Fun Records (2009)
Nice haunting little piece by this Cali group. Not a rocker, but a thinker. They also have a full length which is still available - for more information, check here and/or the NotNotFun site.
**HNY -Dead in a Year- My Estrogeneration Compilation Not Not Fun Records (2009)
**Ende Shneafliet -Air Zaire- Trumpett Day LP Compilation Enfant Terrible Productions (2007; Orig. recorded 1981-83)
This band also has a 2xLP with Enfant Terrible, though both that and this compilation are no longer in print.
